On the 14th Aug, RGT (Robot Global Team), a company specializing in total solutions for service robots, announced that it will conduct a 'large-scale convergence robot demonstration project' targeting large supermarkets for the first time, with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement.
This demonstration project will feature RGT's AI serving robot 'SIRBOT', developed with 100% South Korean technology, along with patrol security robots and air purification robots. These robots will provide new services and inter-robot convergence services tailored to the 24/7 operating environment of large supermarkets. In particular, the convergent operation of robots is expected to demonstrate greater value during night business hours when the number of working staff decreases in 24-hour large supermarkets.
In this demonstration project, SIRBOT will operate an integrated control system for managing multiple types and numbers of robots. Through advanced AI autonomous navigation technology, it will provide services such as in-store product promotion and advertising, real-time analysis of customer exposure effects, checking and alerting for low stock on shelves during navigation, and more. This is expected to improve the working environment for large supermarket employees and lead to tangible increases in sales.
An RGT representative explained, "SIRBOT was the first serving robot introduced to large supermarkets in South Korea in 2022. Based on the operational data accumulated since then, we have been customizing and advancing the system to optimize it for the supermarket environment." They added, "Our autonomous navigation technology enables stable and effective operation of serving robots even in complex and unpredictable supermarket environments. SIRBOT is particularly effective in large supermarkets where heavy and large items are frequently moved, as it can load and transport up to 240kg."
